Difference in Bathroom Vanities

If you have yet to undertake a bathroom design project, you are surely like the rest of us - overwhelmed at the thought of having to make all the right choices. There are many components that go into achieving a beautiful bathroom design - and that includes choosing pieces that meet your expectations in terms of both style and functionality. Bathroom vanities represent the core of the bathroom in many respects; it is from here that the rest of the design will evolve. So it’s important to choose the bathroom vanity that not only speaks to your style and personality but also fits the scale of the room as a whole and provides you with the space and storage that you need.

One thing is certain; a change in bathroom vanity can absolutely transform a bathroom - instantly providing an update and increasing the room’s personal and financial value. Choosing a vanity can be tough with so much to choose from; but it helps to know what’s out there so you can narrow down the choices and ultimately finding the right piece for you. Put simply, vanity differences come down to style and the materials from which the vanity is constructed.

Style

Enter a home and bathroom that hasn’t been updated and you will see often builder’s grade products - including the standard, cookie-cutter bathroom vanities and nondescript square mirrors to which most of us were accustomed growing up. However, there is a world of options out there today, unique designs and exquisite pieces that allow you to take your bathroom to the next level. Today’s bath vanities are very much like furniture; and the impact that they have on a room is in line with what any piece of furniture will do for any room. Here’s what these choices mean for you - complete autonomy to create anything from a traditional bathroom to a modern bathroom - or anything in between. You may have a very strong sense of personal style and have designed your home accordingly; in which case the design of your bathroom will follow suit. Or you may be just moving into a home and want to remain true to the period in which the home was built. In any case, you have the option to literally set the style of your bathroom with your choice of bathroom vanity - antique-style vanities that are in keeping with your period decor, sleek vanities with clean lines for a more modern style, and more.

In addition to the overall style of the vanity, it is important to consider the style in which it meets your needs. In other words, do you have the need for - and the space to accommodate - dual sinks? Then a double sink vanity may be just the upgrade you need for maximum comfort, luxury and value. Have a small bathroom space that presents a design challenge? Consider narrow depth vanities with small sinks, free-standing vanities or wall-mounted vanities to maximize your space. Need to up the ante on storage? Choose bathroom vanities with plenty of drawer and cabinet space.

Materials

Just as furniture is crafted from a variety of materials, so do are bathroom vanities. When shopping, you are likely to see a host of styles that lend themselves to different styles of decor in particular. Glass vanities are seen in more contemporary styles and in some cases glass is combined with wood for a piece that complements modern bathroom decor.

Wood-crafted bath vanities are the more traditional style but differ dramatically in terms of type of wood used and color of the wood. Price differs according to wood, as well; less expensive pine wood results in a less expensive vanity. Stronger, more durable wood such as solid mahogany tends to be more expensive.  Finished wood pieces are either stained in a variety of colors - or painted. However, all high quality wood bath vanities will be finished with a paint or varnish that will protect the wood against water, mold and warping; an absolute must in this high humidity room.
