Why a Bathroom Vanity
If you are tackling - or considering tackling - a bathroom remodel or redesign project, then you are likely asking yourself right about now what you really need and what can be skipped. After all, a bathroom remodel requires a significant financial investment. Do you really need to do everything? Or can you leave the big things and hope that the changing of some small pieces will yield great transformation? And, while we’re at it...why do you need a bathroom vanity?
There’s no doubt that a bathroom remodel costs money but ultimately people choose to remodel for two reasons: they want their bathrooms to reflect their style and an updated bathroom increases the value of their home. Every room needs a focal point and generally has one whether you like it or not. It’s the unofficial heartbeat of the room and it wields great power in determining what else is chosen for the room as all else is measured against it in terms of style, color and scale.
This is what the bathroom vanity is for your bathroom. It is the hearbeat. Command central. It is your home base of operation (in terms of storage and general usage) and it sets the tone of the room’s style, again, like it or not. So you might as well light it because in terms of bang for you buck, bath vanities are a great investment.
So what does a choice in bathroom vanity get you?
- Style. If you’re looking to go contemporary or create a vintage bathroom, you’re not likely to get far with a bath vanity that is not in line with your vision. Otherwise you have a contemporary bath vanity - all glass countertops and chrome fixtures - with a bunch of vintage decor around it. Or vice versa. At this point the vanity becomes the pink elephant in the room and rather than adding to the decor, it stands out like a sore thumb. Choose a bathroom vanity in line with your style and you instantly fingerprint the room to your liking.
- Color palette. Again, as a focal point of the room, the bath vanity determines what will - and more decidedly, what won’t - work in the room. This means that everything from the paint color to the rugs will either complement or completely clash with the vanity.
- Years of use. Look for bathroom vanities that are made from solid wood construction - with a durable wood. Also, high quality vanities will be varnished or painted to protect the wood against the ravages of a humid environment. Choose high quality and it will look high quality.
- Increased home value. When you put money into your bathrooms you put money into your home. Updated bathrooms significantly increase the value of your home and are a significant incentive to buyers.
